Baisakhi 2026 organised by Dimapur Music College, begins in Dimapur with 344 participants from across the Northeast in music, dance and art.

DIMAPUR — The two-day Baisakhi 2026, organised by Dimapur Music College, got underway at the auditorium of Pranab Vidyapith Higher Secondary School, Dimapur, on Saturday, with 344 participants from across the Northeast taking part in various competitions.
The singing competitions include classical music, Rabindra Sangeet, Nazrul Geeti, Lokogeeti and modern/non-film songs, while the dance competitions include Rabindra Nritya, Nazrul Nritya, Bharatanatyam and Kathak. Competitions in tabla and art are also being held.
A total of 107 participants registered for the art competition, while the other competitions have a combined 237 participants.

Principal of Dimapur Music College, Sharmista Mukherjee, said this is the first time the event is being organised externally, as in previous years it was held internally at the college annually.
The competitions have been divided into three age categories: Category A for participants aged up to 12 years, Category B for those above 12 and up to 16 years, and Category C for those above 16 years.
The Secretary and In-Charge of the Bharat Sevashram Sangha branch covering Dimapur and the Karbi Anglong district of Assam, Swami Chinmayanandaji Maharaj, in his address, said that the premises is always open for religious and cultural events.
