DIMAPUR — In view of the upcoming Hornbill Festival, Christmas, and New Year 2026, the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) has issued directives for strict compliance by all shops, business establishments, commercial building owners, and colonies under its jurisdiction.

In a press release, Thungchanbemo Tungoe, Chief Executive Officer of DMC, stated that the directives are a follow-up to the discussions held during the November 24 meeting with Dimapur's civil society organisations (CSOs).

The council directed all shops, business establishments, commercial buildings, and residential colonies to ensure proper whitewashing and painting of their premises.

It recommended painting of shutters and doors with blue colour for uniformity and an enhanced civic appearance

“All shop owners, business establishments, colonies, and building owners shall decorate and illuminate their respective premises using low-energy-consumption decorative lights/colourful bulbs on or before 30th November 2025, to enhance the festive ambience of Dimapur during the Hornbill Festival, Christmas, and New Year celebrations,” the DMC stated.

Further, the municipal council announced that a special social work/cleanliness drive shall be undertaken by all business establishments and colonies under the jurisdiction of DMC on November 29, from 6 am to 9 am.

“The cooperation of all stakeholders is essential for presenting a clean, vibrant, and festive Dimapur during the Hornbill Festival, Christmas, and New Year.

“Non-compliance shall invite appropriate action as per the relevant provisions of the Nagaland Municipal Act, 2023, and other applicable guidelines,” it added.
