Dimapur emerges overall champion at inter-district school tournament; DoSE announces sports kits distribution to boost grassroots participation statewide

MOKOKCHUNG — Dimapur district emerged as overall champions of the Inter-District Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) and Government High School (GHS) Tournament 2026, winning seven gold, one silver and one bronze medal on April 15.
Kohima finished second with four gold, two silver and one bronze medals, while hosts Mokokchung secured third place with two gold, four silver and five bronze.
Aron of Zunheboto was named best male athlete, while Neshe Moanyu Konyak of Dimapur was adjudged best female athlete.
The two-day tournament, hosted by the District Education Office Mokokchung at Imkongmeren Sports Complex and sponsored by Samagra Shiksha Nagaland, saw participation from over 600 athletes representing 17 districts.
Events included track and field disciplines such as 100m, 200m, 800m, 1500m, relays, long jump, shot put and discus throw, along with team events like badminton doubles, girls’ volleyball and boys’ sepak takraw.

Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung Ajit Kumar Verma, attending as guest of honour, highlighted the role of sports in shaping discipline, teamwork and overall personality development among students.
Principal Director of School Education Shashank Pratap Singh announced that footballs and other sports kits will soon be distributed to all government middle schools (GMS) to boost sporting activities.
Under a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, cricket kits were distributed to four schools with playground facilities—GHSS Tuli, GHS Changtongya, Mayangnokcha GHSS and NI Jamir GHSS.
