  • DIMAPUR — The Dimapur Bengali Students Union (DBSU) on Sunday felicitated the meritorious HSLC and HSSLC students for exams conducted by the Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE) during a programme held at the premises of St. Mary's Higher Secondary School in Dimapur.

  • On the occasion, the installation of newly elected DBSU office bearers was also held. The oath-taking ceremony was presided over by Dimapur Bengali Samaj president KK Paul.

  • The event had the Minister of Tourism and Higher Education, Temjen Imna Along, as chief guest, and the state president of BJP Nagaland and chairman of the People's Democratic Alliance (PDA), Benjamin Yepthomi, as guest of honour.

  • Along, speaking at the event, spoke about the responsibility of all communities in the growth and progress of Nagaland and emphasised that education is a fundamental right. He stated that students should not face any problems studying in either government schools or colleges and encouraged them to approach the student union if they encounter any issues.

  • He encouraged students to embrace challenges and stay resilient when facing difficulties. He stated that success requires hard work and that without facing struggles, resilience and commitment cannot be developed. He added that Nagaland is built by contributions from both tribal and non-tribal groups.

  • On the issue of the Inner Line Permit (ILP), Along said those who arrived before 1979 need not worry. He acknowledged concerns about illegal immigration, especially from Bangladesh, noting that the demographic pressure is overwhelming for local communities. He emphasised the need for cooperation among Nagas and non-Nagas to ensure a secure and prosperous future for all.

  • In his speech, Yepthomi emphasised that academic success alone is insufficient, stating that skills development and ethical behaviour in dealing with others are equally important. He also mentioned that the ILP is intended to control illegal immigration.

  • The welcome speech was delivered by former DBSU president Deepankar Sarkar, while the incoming DBSU president, Rajat Ghosh, urged students to remember their roots and continue to respect their parents.

  • The new team comprises the following members: vice presidents Debasish Debnath and Ranabir Sarkar; speaker and sport secretary Rohit Dutta; general secretary Jayanta Debnath; assistant general secretary Tanmoy Sarkar; joint secretaries Santoshi Sutradhar and Sujoy Aich; organising secretary Pratham Suklabaidya; education secretary Angshik Sharma Biswas; women affairs and cultural secretary Priya Das; information secretary Preety Das; press and media secretary Pretiyka Debnath; along with executives Nayan Bhadra, Rehyan Banik, Sujit Debnath, Aniket Das, Rohit Saha, Ranti Saha, Raj Dey, Aditya Das, Sujal Biswas, Ankur Sharma Biswas, Reet Deb, Deep Dey, Supriya Dey, and Rimpi Das.
