- DIMAPUR — The Sargam Cultural Association, in
collaboration with the North East Zone Cultural Centre (NEZCC), Ministry of
Culture, celebrated the 164th birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore on
Sunday at Durga Mandir Auditorium, Old Daily Market, Dimapur.
- The guest of honour for the event was Dimapur Bangali Samaj
(DBS) president, advocate KK Paul, who, speaking on the occasion, talked about
the life and works of the Bengali polymath and Nobel laureate and his cultural
influence among the Bengali populace and beyond.
- Tagore’s works have taken the form of popular and distinct
genres of music called Rabindra Sangeet (Tagore Songs) and dance called
Rabindra Nritya Natya. In celebration of his 164th birthday, the event also
held competitions in Rabindra Sangeet and Rabindra Nritya.
- Each competition was divided into two categories: Group A
for participants aged 13 and below, and Group B for participants aged 14 and
above. The singing competition was judged by Ashish Das, Sharmila Choudhury,
and Simanti Sen Poddar. The dance competition was judged by Rishuv Poddar, Ruby
Mallick, and Kartick Kumar.
- The programme was hosted by Pampi Sarkar, while the welcome
address was delivered by Srabanee Acharjee. The programme concept and direction
were provided by Kamal Kumar Acharjee, chairman of the Sargam Cultural
Association.
