DIMAPUR — The Department of Economics and Statistics (DES) conducted a two-day state level training programme on ‘Domestic tourism expenditure survey of NSS 80th round’ on July 2 and 3 at its conference hall in Kohima with participation of economics and statistics officers from all the districts.


An update from the department stated that the primary objective of ‘Domestic tourism expenditure survey of NSS 80th round’ was to collect detailed information on expenditure on domestic tourism along with some information on household characteristics, visitor characteristics and trip characteristics in relation to domestic overnight trip required for preparation of tourism satellite account (TSA), which would be done by the Ministry of Tourism (MoT).

It mentioned that MoT would provide the travel and tourism data to United Nation World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) to generate travel and tourism development index. It added that the data generated from the survey is an important source for policy research and for formulation of sector specific policies and programmes.


Besides tourism satellite account, the survey would cover a wide range of information on the various aspects such month of starting the trip, purpose of trip, main destination of the trip, mode of travel etc.


The technical sessions were taken up by Kiutan Simon (ESO), Mhabemo Ovung (ESO) and Ruokuophrelie (IOS).

It further stated that the survey would be conducted from July 2025 to June 2026.
