observation in Imphal on Friday.
- IMPHAL — Dengue,
a mosquito-borne viral infection which was once a seasonal issue in Manipur
state, has now become a year-round problem, according to Dr. S Priyokumar,
state malaria officer.
- “Unprecedented human population growth,
unplanned/uncontrolled urbanisation, water supply management and increase
distribution and densities of vector mosquito are some of the factors for the
increase of Dengue cases,” said Dr. Priyokumar while speaking at National
Dengue Day 2025 observation in Imphal on Friday.
- Dengue cases were first reported from Moreh, a border town
in Manipur in 2007 and it was later reported from other parts of the state, he
said.

Health department alone, he emphasised on community involvement as the need of
the hour.

Control Programme, Manipur, on the theme ‘Check, clean, cover: Steps to detect
dengue.’

- It may be mentioned that Dr. Ranjana Khuraijam, head of
research & laboratory of Mother’s Care Children Hospital, in a recent
event, noted that climate change and rising temperatures have expanded the
aedes mosquito population in Manipur's hilly districts, leading to vector-borne
diseases even in winter.
