DIMAPUR — A demonstration programme on dyeing of Eri silk was held at Urra village, Chümoukedima, on Tuesday under the initiative Mera Resham Mera Abhiman (MRMA).


According to an update, the objective of the event was to impart practical knowledge on value addition in Eri silk through eco-friendly dyeing methods.


The programme was attended by Dr. Anil Kumar ST, scientist-B, and Pete Medoni, supervisor and farm incharge.

Dr. Anil Kumar ST explained the Eri silk dyeing process in detail. He spoke about both traditional and modern techniques, particularly the use of natural dyes derived from plants, and highlighted the importance of scientific methods in ensuring quality and durability.


He further emphasised the growing market potential of naturally dyed Eri silk, noting that eco-friendly products are gaining popularity in both domestic and international markets.


As part of the programme, the participants also received hands-on training from progressive entrepreneur Junaki Girisa, who demonstrated natural dyeing using tea powder. Her practical session provided farmers and artisans with skills to apply natural dyeing techniques in their own work.
