Deputy Commissioner Japheth Woch warns of strict action over telecom infrastructure damage in Tseminyu district.

DIMAPUR — Deputy Commissioner of Tseminyu, Japheth Woch, has informed the public that any damage, theft or interference with telecom infrastructure, including optical fibre cables, joint enclosures and related equipment, is a punishable offence under the law, in view of the recurring disruptions in mobile and internet services in the district.
According to a DIPR report, the disruptions have been caused by damage to optical fibre cables and related telecom infrastructure.
The DC directed village councils and local authorities to take responsibility for protecting telecom infrastructure within their respective areas and to create awareness among the public.
Woch further directed telecom service providers to properly maintain their installations, coordinate with local authorities and ensure quick restoration of services in case of any disruptions.

All incidents of damage or disruption must be immediately reported to the district administration and the nearest police station without delay.
Legal action will be initiated against any person found involved in such activities under relevant provisions of the Information Technology Act, 2000, including Sections 43, 66 and 66B, and under applicable provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, including Sections 303 (theft), 317 (stolen property) and 324 (mischief), it stated.
Further, under Section 42(5) of the Telecommunication Act, 2023, damaging telecommunication infrastructure is a punishable offence with a fine of up to INR 50 lakh.
Offenders shall be liable for imprisonment, fine and recovery of restoration costs as per law, the report added.
