DC Mokokchung shares details of the Dr Ambedkar Medical Aid Scheme offering financial aid to SC and ST patients.
DIMAPUR — Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung Ajit Kumar Verma has issued an official circular sharing information about the Dr. Ambedkar Medical Aid Scheme, which provides financial assistance to Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) patients suffering from serious, life-threatening illnesses.
The aid is meant for patients requiring major surgeries or treatments, such as organ transplants, brain or spinal surgeries, kidney care, and cancer treatments.
According to a DIPR report, to qualify for the assistance, a patient must meet two primary criteria: the family's total annual income must be less than INR 5,00,000, and the patient must not be covered under the AB-PMJAY or CMHIS health insurance plans.
The financial assistance will not be deposited into the patient’s personal bank account. Instead, the approved amount will be sent directly to the hospital where the patient is receiving treatment.
For kidney or other organ transplants, financial assistance of up to INR 3.50 lakh may be provided. The same maximum amount of INR 3.50 lakh is available for kidney surgery or dialysis.

Patients undergoing cancer treatment, including surgery, chemotherapy or radiation therapy, may receive assistance of up to INR 2.50 lakh. For brain surgery, the maximum assistance is INR 2.00 lakh. Patients suffering from other life-threatening diseases may also receive up to INR 2.00 lakh.
For heart surgery, financial assistance of up to INR 1.50 lakh may be provided. The maximum assistance available for spinal surgery is also INR 1.50 lakh.
Eligible patients must fill out the application form (Annexure I) and submit it to the Dr. Ambedkar Foundation office in New Delhi. The filled-in application form must arrive at least 15 days before the treatment begins.
Patients are advised to attach photocopies of their Caste or Tribe Certificate; an Income Certificate officially issued by the deputy commissioner’s office; an identity proof (Aadhaar card or ration card); and a formal hospital estimate (Annexure II) from the hospital's medical superintendent showing the cost of surgery or treatment.
