Dignitaries and villagers gathered around the unveiled monolith marking the inauguration of the bypass road in Kiphire village on Thursday.

KIPHIRE — The newly opened bypass road through Kiphire village was officially inaugurated on Thursday, with Temsuwati Longkumer, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Kiphire, as the special guest who unveiled the monolith to commemorate the event.

The bypass project, which began in 2022, was delayed due to some challenges. Now completed, the road stretches 8.1 km and has reduced travel time from 30 minutes to just 15 minutes.

Speaking on the occasion, the DC lauded the Kiphire Village Council for taking strong steps not only for their village but also for the overall good of Kiphire district, according to an update.

He emphasised that development follows where there are roads and encouraged the villagers to construct proper drainage along the road to ensure its longevity. Although the bypass is currently an unpaved (kuccha) road, he advised the villagers to seek assistance through the PMGSY scheme for blacktopping in the future.

He assured that the district administration and departments are prepared to support any recognised village organisation that works sincerely for development. The DC also urged the community to continue upholding unity and peace, emphasising that such values will help the village and district progress.

Tsidongchem, chairman of Kiphire Village Council, praised the villagers and leaders for their support and teamwork. He mentioned that passenger-carrying Tata Sumos and other light vehicles are already using the road, and heavy vehicles are expected to use the route within a few months.

Other dignitaries at the event included the additional deputy commissioner (ADC), extra assistant commissioner (EAC), and commandant of the 14th Assam Rifles.
