The DAYO Town Unit organised a mass cleanliness drive at DDSC Stadium in Dimapur ahead of Tsüngremong, promoting civic responsibility and environmental cleanliness.
DIMAPUR — The Dimapur Ao Youth Organisation (DAYO) Town Unit organised a mass cleanliness drive at the DDSC Stadium on Friday to mark the upcoming Tsüngremong festival on the theme, "Our City, Our Festival, Our Responsibility," with the motto, "Let's Clean Up – Celebrating Tsüngremong Responsibly."
The initiative aimed to promote environmental cleanliness, instil civic sense and encourage collective responsibility among residents ahead of the festival.
The drive began at 6 a.m., with volunteers from the DAYO Town Unit cleaning the stadium premises. A formal programme followed at 8 a.m.
The programme, hosted by Nokditola Ozukum, commenced with a welcome address and an introductory speech by DAYO Town Unit president Jangjilong Longchar, who outlined the objectives of the initiative.
Councillors, invited guests and representatives of the DAYO parent body also addressed the gathering.
Speaking to Eastern Mirror, the DAYO Town Unit president said the organisation wanted to celebrate Tsüngremong differently this year by emphasising civic responsibility alongside the festive spirit.

"During festivals, we dance, sing and celebrate. However, the Town Unit wanted to instil civic sense and responsibility among the public. Traditionally, before any festival, we clean our homes and surroundings before celebrating. We wanted to be among the first organisations or tribal communities to encourage citizens of Dimapur to adopt this sense of civic responsibility," Longchar said.
Asked whether the cleanliness drive would become an annual pre-festival tradition, Longchar said the decision would depend on the organisation's future executive committee.
"I don't know because it won't be my decision alone. It depends on the executive. This year we chose to organise this drive, and next year it may be the same initiative or something different," he said.
He added that although this year's programme was organised solely by the DAYO Town Unit, the organisation hopes to collaborate with civic bodies such as Better Dimapur and the Dimapur Urban Council Chairmen Federation (DUCCF) in the future to expand the initiative's impact.
