The principal district and sessions judge in Kohima sentenced a 44-year-old David Swunetho to six months rigorous imprisonment under the Indian Penal Code.

DIMAPUR — The Court of Mezivolu T Therieh, Principal District and Sessions Judge, Kohima, has convicted 44-year-old David Swunetho under Section 354A(1)(i) of the Indian Penal Code, sentencing him to six months of rigorous imprisonment, according to a judgement and order dated March 30.
A press release issued by Abraham, Additional Public Prosecutor, Kohima, informed that the case was investigated by ASI Venus Kikon of the Women Police Station, Kohima.
During the course of the trial, the prosecution examined a total of nine witnesses. The case was effectively prosecuted on behalf of the state by L Sashimongla, Special Public Prosecutor, Kohima.

Upon conviction, the court sentenced the accused to six months of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of INR 10,000. In default of payment of the fine, the accused shall further undergo two months of simple imprisonment.
While passing the sentence, the court observed that the offence committed was serious in nature, affecting the dignity of a woman. At the same time, the court considered the mitigating circumstances before imposing the sentence.
The additional public prosecutor expressed appreciation for the efficient coordination among all stakeholders, including the investigating officer, the prosecution team, and witnesses, whose collective effort ensured an effective investigation and a successful trial.
