The Commission for Education Diocese of Kohima disburses INR 8,50,000 to landslide-affected students and families in Mon.

DIMAPUR — The Commission for Education Diocese of Kohima (CEDOK) has disbursed INR 8,50,000 in relief to the families of 103 students in Mon district whose homes were completely destroyed or severely damaged by natural disasters, alongside offering assistance to families who suffered the loss of life.
Following an appeal by the Secretary of CEDOK, Dr. Jacob Charalel, students, parents, teachers, and school managements of Catholic schools across Nagaland contributed to the mission.
According to a press release, the initiative aimed to support vulnerable students and families, serving all people without discrimination based on tribe, race, culture, or religious denomination.
The relief effort was coordinated in collaboration with local administrative and civil society bodies in Mon. CEDOK expressed gratitude to Deputy Commissioner Wennyei Konyak, EAC Imlong Chaba Chang, the district administration of Mon, the Konyak Union, the All Nagaland Private Schools Association Mon unit, and the Konyak Students' Union for facilitating the distribution.

On August 19, the CEDOK team visited the affected homes and held prayers for families who lost members during the landslide on July 19 in Mon.
The following day, relief distribution sessions were conducted at Don Bosco Higher Secondary School and St. John Higher Secondary School. Affected families received INR 15,000 each, while individual affected students were provided INR 9,000.
On the occasion, DC Wennye spoke about safety warnings and preparedness measures implemented by disaster management to protect against natural calamities. Stressing that the region is prone to natural disasters, the Deputy Commissioner urged everyone to remain cautious and vigilant. He also thanked the Catholic Church for responding to social needs.
Secretary of Konyak Union Yongwan Konyak and President of All Nagaland Private Schools Association L Yajao Konyak also appreciated the work of CEDOK.
The organisation also extended appreciation to the Principal of Don Bosco School, Mon, Lawrence Elow, SDB, and Pangnyei Konyak for their hospitality and assistance during the relief work, as well as to all Catholic schools for their contributions.
