Close call at Dhobinala: Man climbs 500 kVA transformer, rescued safely

DIMAPUR — On Saturday morning, around 9.30 am, a man believed to be intoxicated climbed onto a 500 kVA transformer at Dhobinala junction in Dimapur.

Alert passers-by, sensing the potential danger to both the man and the public, promptly informed the Power department. Officials responded swiftly by shutting down the power supply to prevent any mishap.

Thanks to the department's quick action, a rescue operation was carried out within minutes, and the man was brought down safely from the high-voltage transformer, averting what could have been a tragic incident.

A lineman at the scene expressed astonishment at how the man, despite his condition, managed to climb the structure.

The man’s identity could not be confirmed, but sources said he was let off after being scolded for his reckless behavior and for endangering lives.
