Four men have been convicted in Wokha district of Nagaland for hunting and torturing a protected Hornbill bird, under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.

DIMAPUR — The Judicial Magistrate First Class, Wokha, has convicted and sentenced four persons for hunting and torturing a Hornbill bird, a protected species under Indian law.
In a judgement issued on Friday, the Wokha JFMC, Julian Silthou, noted that the incident, which occurred on June 6, 2022, at Bhandari town in Wokha district, had gained widespread attention after going viral on a social media platform.
Consequently, the accused—Myanthung Ezung, Nribemo Patton, Rhyuzamo Patton, and Renthungo Mozhui—were found guilty under Section 55 of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, following a complaint filed by H Tokaho Kinimi, Wildlife Warden I/C, Wildlife Crime Control Branch, Wildlife Division, Dimapur.
