- DIMAPUR — With the onset of the monsoon season,
authorities in Nagaland have issued advisories warning the public of expected
heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, which could lead to
flash floods, waterlogging, and landslides, particularly in low-lying and
foothill areas.
- The Office of the Deputy Commissioner and District Disaster
Management Authority (DDMA), Chümoukedima, in an advisory, requested people to
refrain from going to landslide-prone areas and to avoid any water-related
activities.
- Further, all concerned area administrative officers, heads
of departments, ward authorities, VDMA chairmen, head GBs, and GBs have been
directed to remain alert and take necessary precautionary measures to avoid
loss of life and damage to property.
- It was advised to stay informed and updated on weather
alerts, be cautious while travelling, keep an eye on the elderly, children, and
people who require assistance, unplug electrical devices during thunderstorms,
and drive cautiously. People were also warned not to ignore weather warnings,
avoid unnecessary travel especially at night, refrain from spreading rumours by
relying on official sources for accurate information, avoid touching fallen
power lines, and not to walk or drive through flooded areas.

- It was mentioned that in case of any emergencies, the
concerned authorities should be contacted immediately. Incidents such as flash
floods, landslides, rock falls, and uprooting of trees should be reported.

- The Deputy Commissioner of Noklak, P Mono Khiamniungan, in a
similar advisory, stated to keep oneself updated on weather conditions and
forecasts. During heavy rainfall, avoid wading through flooded waters and be
extra cautious when crossing bridges or moving near water bodies.
- Also, the public has been asked to exercise caution while
travelling, especially on roads prone to flooding or landslides. If heavy rain
and reduced visibility are encountered, consider postponing the journey until
the weather improves, and it is advised not to travel at night during the
monsoon season.
- Be aware of the presence of electrical power lines and avoid
approaching them, especially in wet conditions. Report any fallen or hanging
power lines to the concerned authorities, and keep an eye on the elderly,
children, and people with special needs who require extra assistance.
- In case of any emergency or hazardous situation, the public
has been advised to contact the concerned authorities immediately. Incidents
such as landslides, flooding, road damage, or fallen trees should be reported
