Chümoukedima held an awareness programme on SIR 2026, urging citizens to verify electoral details and support the revision of voter rolls ahead of the final publication on November 22.

DIMAPUR — An awareness programme on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) 2026 of electoral rolls was organised by the Office of the Deputy Commissioner and District Election Office, Chümoukedima, on Tuesday to sensitise citizens, stakeholders and election functionaries about the importance of the revision exercise.
According to a DIPR report, the programme was chaired by EAC Kevethito Rose.
Addressing the programme, ADC and Electoral Registration Officer (ERO), Chümoukedima, Lemlila Sangtam, said the SIR is a structured process initiated by the Election Commission of India to comprehensively update and verify electoral rolls.
She said the exercise aims to ensure that every eligible citizen is accurately registered as a voter while removing duplicate, deceased and incorrectly entered names from the existing electoral rolls.
Sangtam highlighted that a clean and updated electoral roll is essential for ensuring transparent, credible and inclusive elections. She said the SIR exercise would help maintain accurate voter lists, remove ineligible entries, include newly eligible voters, reduce the possibility of electoral irregularities and improve electoral planning.
“A clean election is only possible with a clean electoral roll,” the ERO remarked, calling upon functionaries, stakeholders and citizens to extend their full cooperation and actively participate in the SIR process.

She further urged all concerned to work together for the successful implementation of the SIR in the 4-Ghaspani-I Assembly Constituency, stressing that collective participation is vital to maintaining an accurate, inclusive and credible electoral roll.
The programme also sought to create awareness about the electoral roll revision process and encourage eligible citizens to verify their particulars and ensure that their names are correctly included in the electoral rolls. The guiding principle of the exercise was emphasised as: “No eligible citizen is left out; no ineligible person is included.”
As per the SIR 2026 schedule for Nagaland, house-to-house visits by Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will be conducted from August 16 to September 14. The draft electoral roll is scheduled to be published on September 20, followed by the filing of claims and objections from September 20 to October 20.
The notice phase and disposal of claims and objections will continue from September 20 to November 18, while the final electoral roll is scheduled to be published on November 22, 2026.
