Chümoukedima DPDB reviewed development proposals, approved society registrations and LADP plans.

DIMAPUR — The monthly meeting of the District Planning and Development Board (DPDB), Chümoukedima, was held at the deputy commissioner's conference hall on Friday under the chairmanship of Advisor for Urban Development and Municipal Affairs, Zhaleo Rio.
According to a DIPR report, Advisor for Industries and Commerce, Hekani Jakhalu, also attended the meeting.
Addressing the members, Zhaleo, who is also the DPDB chairman, said that with more government offices being established in Chümoukedima district, officers must discharge their responsibilities with dedication and sincerity.
He urged officials to serve with a sense of purpose and commitment rather than viewing their duties merely as employment.
Advisor Jakhalu said every DPDB meeting offers an opportunity to reflect on the performance of "Team Chümoukedima" and to chart the district's progress through a shared vision.
Despite the state's financial constraints and challenges in revenue generation, she stressed the need for concerted efforts to strengthen the local economy.
Referring to the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, Jakhalu said the groundwork must begin now by supporting micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and local businesses to ensure that development initiatives directly benefit the people.
The board examined applications for society registration and approved the registration of Pro Village, Molvom Village, and Odia Samaj Nagaland, 4th Mile, Diphupar. It also approved the Local Area Development Programme (LADP) proposals for 2026-27.
On the proposal to establish a District Industries Centre (DIC) in Chümoukedima, the board noted that the matter is under government consideration.
While agreeing in principle, it stated that the establishment of the centre would be carried out in accordance with due government procedures.
The board also deliberated on a representation submitted by the Chakhroma Public Organisation (CPO) seeking reconstruction of the suspension bridge at Chümoukedima Saturday Bazaar, which was damaged during the monsoon floods, along with the construction of a foot overbridge at the same location. The board recommended that the matter be taken up with the State PWD and noted that INR 4 lakh had earlier been provided by the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) for restoration work.
Presenting an update on the ongoing Census exercise, Additional Deputy Commissioner T. Lemlila Sangtam informed the board that around 25 per cent coverage has been achieved so far.
She said the district has five charge officers supervising the exercise and expressed confidence that the enumeration would be completed within the stipulated timeframe.
Scientist 'B' of the Nagaland Pollution Control Board (NPCB), Yanathung Kithan, delivered a PowerPoint presentation on solid waste management, highlighting the importance of scientific waste segregation, collection and disposal for environmental sustainability.
Emphasising effective waste management, Zhaleo said every citizen should become an agent of change by adhering to the Solid Waste Management Rules. He called for close coordination among the district administration, Chümoukedima Town Council and the public, stressing strict compliance with waste segregation practices and greater public awareness on proper waste disposal.
He expressed hope that Chümoukedima would emerge as a model district in solid waste management.
The board also decided that the Urban Development Department would make a PowerPoint presentation at the next DPDB meeting.
