MOKOKCHUNG — Children School Mokokchung celebrated its golden jubilee on the theme “Thriving with wisdom” at Aongza Ki, Mokokchung, on Wednesday.
Tongpok Pongener, an advocate at the Gauhati High Court (Kohima Bench), who briefly served as a headmaster of Children School, was the theme speaker at the event.
In his address, Pongener explained that wisdom signifies sound judgement and the ability to discern rightly in every situation.

He stated that each person is endowed with innate wisdom by the Creator, but many often overlook it and allow emotions to govern their lives, leading to disorder and unrest.
He asserted that when guided by wisdom, peace and prosperity prevail, and it is through wisdom that society progresses. “Without wisdom, societies crumble and darkness takes over,” he remarked.

Pongener added that the repository of wisdom begins with humility before the Creator, which enables individuals to meaningfully contribute to society during their earthly lives.
Highlighting the path to wisdom, he noted that one must seek truth, for “truth sets us free, and it is the foundation upon which wisdom grows.”
He further observed that context gives life meaning and direction, stating, “Everything has context; without it, sound decisions are impossible. Context is the truth that grants discernment.”
Speaking on education, Pongener said that wisdom calls for every child to be provided with the right space and opportunities to nurture their potential. He also stressed that wisdom demands teachers recognise and respect the fundamental rights and developmental needs of children to help them flourish.

Takuyaba, a founding member and former chairman of the school, recounted that in 1975, thirty-five parents joined hands to financially support and manage the tutorial class, eventually naming it “Children School”. However, by 2005, the growing challenges of funding, class upgradation, and staffing became difficult for the parent group to sustain.
When student enrolment began to fluctuate, only six parents continued to support the institution, and they later came to be recognised as the founding members. In 2006, the group decided to sell the school, which was subsequently purchased by S Maken. His son, Lanuwati, now serves as the sole proprietor.
During the celebration, alumni Aren Changkiri and Aochina Jamir shared memories of their school days. Representatives from AKM, ANPSA Mokokchung Unit, DEO Mokokchung, and Aongza Ward Authority also delivered short speeches to mark the occasion.
