WOKHA — A surgical camp under the Chief Minister’s Mobile Operation Theatre (CM-MOT) initiative arrived at Dr. Motsuo Memorial District Hospital in Wokha on Saturday.
The camp, part of the Chief Minister Health Insurance Scheme (CMHIS), was led by Dr. Tseilhouto Rhutso, MLA, along with a team of professional doctors.
The CM-MOT initiative, part of the CMHIS programme, was flagged off by Nagaland Governor La Ganesan earlier on January 26 this year. Dr. Rhutso explained that the programme aims to make free healthcare accessible to people, especially in remote and rural areas, by bringing hospitals directly to their doorsteps.
He noted that many citizens struggle to avail the scheme’s benefits due to financial barriers, and the mobile unit seeks to address this gap by delivering medical services district-wise to the poor and needy.
He further emphasised that the diverse team of specialist doctors reflected the collaborative spirit of the Nagas working together for a prosperous Nagaland.
Reflecting on his own journey, the legislator shared that prior to entering politics, he served as a medical professional and still remains committed to serving people. Wokha, he added, feels like a homecoming as he served in the district for five years and performed a high number of surgeries during that time.

Y Mhonbemo Humtsoe, MLA, in his brief address, extended appreciation to Dr. Rhutso and Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio for initiating a programme that reaches people across Nagaland, especially the rural and underprivileged.
He praised Dr. Rhutso's dedication and sacrifice, saying it inspires young doctors and showcases his commitment to public service that goes beyond his legislative role.
Humtsoe also lauded the chief minister’s visionary efforts, including youth-focused programmes. He noted that the chief minister recently visited Japan to explore opportunities to train Naga youths in Japanese language and skills, aiming to create 10,000 job opportunities.
A total of 177 patients registered for free surgery in Wokha, with around 20 surgical cases being taken up. Dr. Kenei reported that the team is performing all surgeries except for those involving the eyes and ears due to the need for stricter sterility.
He added that the team has completed over 500 surgeries across nine districts in 16 locations so far. The next camp will be held on Monday at Bhandari under Wokha district.
The programme was chaired by Dr. N Mhonchan Kithan, Medical Superintendent of Wokha, while the vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Thungchanbemo Ezung, Chief Medical Officer.
