Three Chang apex bodies, CRPO and Sangtam Union Kohima condemn the alleged attempted murder of Langshi Chang and call for an impartial probe and legal action.
DIMAPUR — Three Chang apex bodies and the Chingmei Range Public Organisation (CRPO) have condemned the alleged attempted murder of Langshi Chang of Chendang Saddle village, Tuensang district, on September 16.
The Chang Khulei Setshang (Chang Tribal Council), Chang Wedoshi Setshang (Chang Students’ Conference) and Changsao Thangjam Setshang (Chang Women Organisation) stated that Chang was allegedly shot at by Medochülie Rürhie, a resident of Chiechema village, Kohima.
The CRPO, in a separate statement, identified the accused as Medochulülie Zumvu of Chiechama village.
Describing the incident as shocking and unacceptable, the organisations said Chang, who is the sole breadwinner of his family, had come to earn a livelihood when the incident occurred.
The groups called on the law-enforcement agencies to conduct a speedy, fair and impartial investigation and take strict legal action against the accused under all relevant provisions of law, including the Arms Act, as applicable.

They also urged the authorities to ensure that the victim receives necessary medical, legal and administrative assistance, along with restitution as deemed necessary, and that justice is delivered at the earliest.
The three Chang apex bodies said they would continue to monitor the matter and urged the authorities to act decisively, warning that delays or failure to take appropriate legal action could undermine public confidence in the rule of law.
The CRPO expressed gratitude to the Chang Union Kohima, Chiechama civil society organisations and law-enforcement agencies for their timely intervention.
Sangtam Union Kohima: Meanwhile, the Sangtam Union Kohima (SUK) also condemned the alleged premeditated attempt on the life of Langshi Chang.
In a statement, the SUK urged the investigating agencies and the State government to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation and ensure that the accused is prosecuted under relevant provisions of law for attempted murder. The union appreciated the prompt intervention of the Nagaland Police, Chiechama Village Council (CVC), village youth and civil society organisations in apprehending the accused and handing him over to the authorities. It also commended the CVC for publicly condemning the alleged crime despite the accused being from the village.
