Chang organisations in Dimapur condemn alleged assault of a minor girl and seek strict legal action.

DIMAPUR — Three Chang organisations based in Dimapur have condemned the alleged sexual assault of a minor girl at Lengrijan and demanded strict legal action against the accused.
In separate statements issued on Wednesday, the Chang Students’ Union Dimapur (CSUD), the Changsao Thangjam Dimapur (CTD) and the Chang Union Dimapur (CUD) expressed concern over the incident and called upon law enforcement agencies to conduct a fair and prompt investigation.
The organisations identified the accused as Watimeren, also known as O Wati, a resident of Lengrijan , Dimapur.
The CSUD stated that the victim, said to be a bona fide member of the union, had suffered severe mental and physical trauma due to the alleged abuse.

Condemning the incident in the “strongest possible terms”, the union maintained that such crimes violate the fundamental rights and dignity of individuals and cannot be tolerated in society.
The CTD also denounced the alleged assault and said that the incident had caused serious psychological distress and social stigma to the victim. It appealed to authorities to ensure that the accused is dealt with in accordance with the law and urged citizens to stand united against crimes targeting minors.
The CUD termed the incident “heinous and unacceptable” and expressed solidarity with the victim and her family. The union further appealed to investigating agencies to book the accused under relevant legal provisions.
All three organisations stressed the need for stronger safeguards and accountability mechanisms to protect children from abuse and exploitation and urged society to collectively work towards ensuring the safety and well-being of minors.
