DIMAPUR — The Central Nagaland Tribes Council (CNTC) has urged the Directorate of School Education to revoke its circular directing all government and private schools to observe the 12th International Day of Yoga on June 21, which falls on a Sunday.
The council issued an open letter to the Principal Director of the Department of School Education and questioned the wisdom and sensitivity of scheduling such a programme on a Sunday in a predominantly Christian state.
The CNTC urged the department to immediately revoke the circular and reconsider the scheduling of the programme.
It warned that failure to review the matter might give rise to widespread public dissatisfaction and avoidable tensions, stating that the council reserves the right to pursue appropriate democratic and constitutional avenues if concerns go unaddressed.
