DIMAPUR — Census 2027 training programmes for supervisors and enumerators commenced in Dimapur and Longleng on Thursday to prepare for the upcoming national exercise.
In Dimapur, more than 600 census officers, supervisors, and enumerators are undergoing intensive training at the Livingstone Foundation College of Nursing as preparations gather pace for the Census 2027, the eighth census to be conducted since India’s Independence.
According to a DIPR report, the training programme, organised by the office of the deputy commissioner and principal census officer, Dimapur, is being conducted in batches.
Speaking at the programme on Thursday, Deputy Commissioner and Principal Census Officer Dr. Tinojongshi Chang stated that around 600 supervisors and enumerators would undergo intensive three-day training in batches from June 11 to the 25th for the successful conduct of Census 2027.
He described the participants as fortunate to be entrusted with the important national exercise and urged them to treat the assignment as both a privilege and a responsibility.

Recalling his involvement in the 2011 census while serving as EAC in Dimapur, Dr. Chang highlighted the significance of the census in shaping government policies, welfare programmes, and development planning. He informed that the first phase, House Listing Operations, would be conducted from July 1 to the 31st, while the second phase, Population Enumeration, would take place in February 2027.
Stressing the need for accuracy, he urged enumerators and supervisors to ensure that households provide correct information, as census data forms the basis for socio-economic assessments and government schemes.
Meanwhile, the second phase of training for enumerators and supervisors of the Yongnyah area commenced on Thursday at the DPDB hall in Longleng, with 45 enumerators and supervisors attending the programme.
The first phase for Longleng town commenced on June 8 and culminated on June 10, with 26 enumerators and supervisors attending the training programme.
