CDI marked International Domestic Workers' Day in Kohima, raising awareness on workers' rights, safety and dignity.

DIMAPUR — The Centre for Development Initiatives (CDI) celebrated International Domestic Workers' Day on the theme “Recognising domestic workers' rights, dignity and decent work for all” on June 16 at the CAN Building, Kohima, with the participation of 154 domestic workers.
The programme aimed to recognise the valuable contributions of domestic workers and promote awareness of their rights, safety and well-being, stated an update.
Lanueinla Imchen, Helpline Administrator, Women Helpline 181, Nagaland Women and Child Development Control Room, Nagaland, was the resource speaker for the programme.
In her address, she highlighted the constitutional and legal rights of domestic workers, with a special focus on legal protections available to them. She spoke on issues such as sexual abuse, verbal abuse, workplace exploitation, discrimination and the right to privacy. She encouraged domestic workers to be aware of their rights and to seek help through appropriate legal channels whenever their rights are violated.

Peteu, Call Operator, Women Helpline 181, shared information on various government schemes and support services available for the safety, protection and empowerment of women. She also explained the role of Women Helpline 181 and encouraged participants to make use of the available support systems whenever needed.
Representing the domestic workers, Usha Achumi shared her experiences regarding the challenges and struggles faced by domestic workers in their daily lives. She expressed gratitude to CDI for continuously standing with domestic workers, advocating for their rights and creating opportunities for their empowerment and development.
