APEDA and the District Horticulture Office held a programme in Wokha to promote exports, value addition and market access.

WOKHA — A one-day capacity building programme on export promotion of passion fruit, banana and ginger was conducted at Eloe Hoho community hall, Wokha, on Tuesday.
The programme was organised by the Agricultural & Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), in collaboration with the District Horticulture Office, with the aim of enhancing farmers’ and stakeholders’ understanding of export opportunities, value addition and market linkages for horticultural produce.
During the technical session, Joydev Roy, Business Development Manager, APEDA Tripura, presented on the role of APEDA in promoting exports of agricultural and horticultural products.
He elaborated on schemes available to farmers, entrepreneurs and exporters, while explaining documentation, certification requirements and procedures necessary for export.
Roy urged farmers and agri-entrepreneurs to utilise government support mechanisms to access national and international markets.

Ruth Humtsoe, Horticulture Inspector, highlighted the importance of food processing and preservation in reducing post-harvest losses, extending shelf life and enhancing value.
She noted that value-added products such as dried fruits, chips, jams, juices and pickles can generate higher returns compared to raw produce.
Stressing on modern processing technologies, packaging and branding, Humtsoe said value addition can improve competitiveness, create employment, strengthen rural livelihoods and contribute to the local economy while opening doors to export markets.
The programme was chaired by Y Shanchobeni Humtsoe, Assistant Horticulture Officer, who delivered the welcome address and underscored the importance of promoting locally grown crops.
She encouraged participants to explore avenues for expanding market reach through processing and export.
