- DIMAPUR — The body of 19-year-old Pesha Khiamniungan, who went missing on May 24,
is expected to arrive in Dimapur today from Diphu.

- According to police sources, the Karbi Anglong Police
recovered an unidentified body, suspected to be that of the missing individual,
on May 26 from the Dhansiri River. The body was taken to Diphu for post-mortem
examination and was subsequently buried on May 29.

- Family members confirmed the identity of the body through
the t-shirt he was wearing on that fateful day, along with photographs provided
by the Assam police.

- On Tuesday, personnel from the Diphupar Police along with
the victim’s family traveled to the Diphu Police Station to retrieve the body
and review the post-mortem report to ascertain the cause of death.

- Pesha Khiamniungan was reportedly drowned in Dhansiri River
on May 24, as revealed by a friend during an interrogation by the Diphupar
police on June 2. Following this information, the State Disaster Response Force
and police launched a search operation on June 2 in the downstream area between
Murise and Tsithrongse villages, where Pesha was reported to have drowned.

- The search was suspended later that afternoon but was
scheduled to resume further downstream the following day.

- Diphupar police also informed that the deceased’s scooty,
which was found abandoned near the Thahekhu village ground, was brought to the
police station on June 2. Additionally, the police reported that the victim’s
friend is currently in custody for further questioning.

- At the time of his disappearance, Pesha was studying in
Class 11 at Unity Christian Higher Secondary School in Diphupar. A missing
person's report was filed at the Diphupar Police Station on May 26.
