DIMAPUR — The BLK-Max Super Speciality Hospital, New Delhi, on Saturday announced the launch of their OPD services for nephrology and renal transplantation, oncology, and hepato-pancreato-biliary (HPB) surgery and liver transplantation in partnership with Eden Medical Centre, Dimapur.

This was announced at a press conference held in the conference hall of Eden Medical Centre by the team of doctors from BLK-Max Super Speciality Hospital, New Delhi.

The OPD services will be offered monthly by senior clinicians: Dr. Vishal Saxena, principal director of nephrology and renal transplantation; Dr. Chandragouda Dodagoudar, director of medical oncology; and Dr. Imtiakum Jamir, principal consultant for HPB surgery and liver transplantation.

Although the exact day of their availability was not announced, including flight schedules and weather, the clinicians stated that their availability and OPD services will be announced through the social media channels of Eden Medical Centre and in newspapers.

Dr. Saxena said that the OPD services aim to deliver super speciality care and expert opinions, making quality healthcare accessible to the people of Nagaland, comparable to global standards. He emphasised that over the past years, his team has established a strong rapport with patients from the region.

“We aim to provide streamlined and timely access to specialised kidney care. Our focus is on enhancing early detection, personalised treatment plans, and long-term management, ensuring better outcomes for patients with kidney-related disorders," he said.

Dr. Dodagoudar said that they have been coming to Eden Medical Centre every month and will continue to do so. Highlighting the services available at BLK-Max Super Speciality Hospital, New Delhi, he affirmed that their aim is to make treatments affordable and accessible to every part of India, especially to the people of Nagaland.

According to Dr. Dodagoudar, since cancer care demands timely consultation and a multi-disciplinary approach to ensure the best possible outcomes, the launch of the Oncology OPD in Dimapur aims to benefit more patients by offering timely diagnosis, expert care, and personalised follow-up without requiring long-distance travel. He noted that this initiative brings comprehensive cancer care closer to patients, ensuring they receive timely and appropriate treatment.

Dr Jamir identified liver cirrhosis, often linked to alcohol consumption, as a major health issue in Nagaland. He emphasised that fatty liver disease is a growing concern in the state, affecting both men and women, primarily due to lifestyle changes.

The clinician stressed the importance of early detection to prevent liver cirrhosis and liver cancer, noting that once liver fibrosis and cirrhosis develop, the risk of liver cancer increases.

Dr. Jamir described the landscape of liver cancer in Nagaland as concerning, remarking that while the exact proportion is unknown, there are a significant number of liver cancer patients in the state. He emphasised that liver transplantation is only viable when the cancer is confined to the liver, highlighting the importance of early detection and treatment.
