BJP Youth Wing conducts cleanliness drive at Wokha's Tsumang Lake

WOKHA — The BJP Youth Wing, Wokha, conducted a cleanliness drive at Tsumang Lake on October 3, calling for proper maintenance and development of the site, described as the only ecological lake in the heart of Wokha town.

Speaking during the drive, BJP Youth Wing Wokha president Shanchothung A Ezung expressed concern over the deteriorating condition of the lake due to indiscriminate dumping of garbage, including plastic waste and animal carcasses.

Ezung urged the government to take up the matter at the District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) and initiate measures for the beautification and development of the lake area.

He said proper upkeep of the lake could also contribute to revenue generation and suggested deploying a dedicated caretaker or guard to prevent littering and ensure regular maintenance.

The cleanliness drive began at around 8 a.m. and was attended by members of the BJP Youth Wing.

Garbage trucks provided by the Wokha Town Council and a boat supplied by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) were used during the operation.

Highlighting the organisation's community initiatives, Ezung said the youth wing had previously conducted medical camps, seed distribution programmes, awareness campaigns and cleanliness drives. He added that the organisation would continue the initiative and make the cleanliness drive an annual activity in the district.
