IMPHAL — Amid Manipur's ongoing political turmoil, BJP state president Sharda Devi on Sunday said that the party’s state unit has urged the Centre to restore a popular government.
Sharda Devi made the statement to reporters after a meeting with party legislators, including former CM N Biren Singh, at the BJP office in Imphal.
Describing the meeting as an informal gathering over tea, Sharda Devi said she shared her report on the recent central leadership meeting and noted that they requested the Centre to restore a popular government in Manipur.

“The central leadership also shared their concern about the people and there is no negative response from them (central leadership),” she said. “We also need people’s support and cooperation in restoring a popular government.”
Former Chief Minister N Biren Singh also informed that almost all the BJP legislators attended the day’s meeting convened by the state party president.
On Saturday, Biren Singh informed that they requested the central leadership “to restore a popular ministry in the state of Manipur.”
Manipur has been under President's Rule since February 13, following Biren Singh's resignation as Chief Minister on February 9.
