- IMPHAL — The
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in-charge of northeast, Sambit Patra, who arrived
here on a two day visit to the state, left for the national capital on Tuesday
after holding a series of meetings with BJP MLAs besides meeting former chief
minister, N Biren Singh.
- Though the actual agenda of the meetings is not known, the
BJP leader drove to Kangpokpi district on Tuesday and met the BJP MLA Nemcha
Kipgen at the latter’s residence and others at Kangpokpi, which is located
about 45 km north of Imphal.
- On Monday, soon after his arrival from Delhi, Patra went to
Churachandpur and met BJP MLAs namely Vungzagin Valte of Thanlon and LM Khaute
of Churachandpur.

- After returning from Churachandpur, Patra met former chief
minister, N Biren Singh, at his residence at Luwangsangbam. He also visited the
residence of Manipur Speaker, Th Satyabrata, Yumnam Khemchand and invited BJP
MLAs for a meeting at Imphal Hotel.
- Sambit Patra’s visit was seen crucial in the BJP’s efforts
to engage with stakeholders in Manipur’s ongoing crisis and to seek inputs for
a potential resolution path.
- Manipur is currently under the President's Rule after the
resignation of chief minister N Biren Singh in February this year.
- The state has been witnessing a series of unwanted incidents
after the May 3, 2023 when a student rally turned violent in Churachandpur
district. The violence subsequently spread in other parts of the state in which
more than 250 people have lost their lives, while more than 50,000 people were
rendered homeless.
