BJMM and BJYM Nagaland jointly observed the 125th birth anniversary of Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee in Dimapur.

DIMAPUR — The Bharatiya Janata Mahila Morcha (BJMM) Nagaland and Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) Nagaland jointly commemorated the 125th birth anniversary of Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee at the Rotary Club, Midland, Dimapur, on Friday.
Speaking on the occasion, BJYM Nagaland general secretary Likao Odyuo presented an overview of the life and legacy of Dr. Mukherjee.
He highlighted his contributions as an educationist, nationalist leader, parliamentarian and founder of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh.
Odyuo also spoke about Mukherjee’s firm stand on national unity and integrity, his opposition to the permit system in Jammu and Kashmir, and the circumstances surrounding his arrest and detention.
He recalled that Mukherjee remained in custody for 43 days under the then Jammu and Kashmir government before his untimely death in 1953, an episode that continues to be discussed in India’s political history.
The programme witnessed active participation from students of Cornerstone College, who attended the event and took part in commemorating the nationalist leader’s legacy.

Among those present were BJMM Nagaland president Tsachola Rothrong, BJYM Nagaland president V Khekato Awomi, party functionaries, members of both organisations and invited guests.
The programme was chaired by BJMM Nagaland general secretary Phomisonla Chang, while the welcome address was delivered by BJYM Nagaland general secretary Rajat Ghosh.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Tsachola Rothrong, followed by the singing of the national anthem.
