The state will shift to 100% online registration of births and deaths from June 1, 2026, the department informed.

DIMAPUR — The Economics and Statistics department has informed that all registrations of births and deaths in the state will be carried out through the online system with effect from June 1, 2026, in view of the transition to 100% registration of births and deaths in the state.
According to a DIPR report, all birth and death certificates issued manually prior to June 1, 2026, will remain valid for all official purposes. It stated that no citizen would be required to obtain fresh certificates solely on account of digitisation.
The report stated that digitisation of manually issued birth and death certificates would be an ongoing process throughout the state.
It also informed that delayed registration of birth and death through the online system would continue as per the notified procedures issued earlier.

Citizens have been advised to ensure that all future registrations of births and deaths are carried out only through the designated online registration system.
The department further informed that all district registrars, registrars, and registration units would facilitate a smooth transition to the online system and extend necessary assistance to the public during the transition period.
Citizens may approach the concerned district registrars or registration units for any assistance or clarification.
