College of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry, Jalukie, conducts awareness programme on tick-borne blood parasitic diseases for pet and livestock owners.

DIMAPUR — The Department of Veterinary Medicine and Department of Veterinary Clinical Complex, College of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry, Jalukie, Peren, jointly organised an awareness programme on “Tick-borne blood parasitic diseases in pet animals and livestock” on Wednesday.
According to a press release, the programme was attended by 30 farmers.
Dr. Gunjan Das, professor and head at Department of Veterinary Medicine and in-charge HOD, Veterinary Clinical Complex (VCC), expressed gratitude to the dean, Dr. I Shakuntala, for the opportunity to organise the programme and elaborated on the importance of such awareness for pet and livestock owners.

He also delivered a lecture on ‘Ticks as vectors and their control measures’.
Dr. Palanisammi, in-charge dean, spoke on the importance of blood parasitic diseases in companion and livestock animals. He mentioned the economic loss pet owners incur due to diseases transmitted by tick vectors and the need for special awareness.
Resource persons Dr. Sashitola Ozukum and Dr. Keneisezo Kuotsu, assistant professors at VCC and co-coordinators of the programme, delivered lectures on ‘Tick-borne blood parasitic diseases of pet animals and their management and control’ and ‘Tick-borne blood parasitic diseases of livestock and their management and control’, respectively.
