The programme was held in association with the Khundong Khunkhaiba Village Authority and the Liangmai Naga Council, Western Zone.
Range Forest Officer, Tamei Range, Khundrakpam Johnson, Chairman Liangmai Naga Council P Mairisibou and Vice Chairman Khundong Khunkhaiba, Mathiugomang Thiumai attended the programme. Around 60 men and women from nearby villages also participated, including village authorities from Lenglong, Dikuram, Upper Takou, Lower Takou, Tamei HQ and Konphung village.
The organisers highlighted that the area is known as a hornbill habitat with about four species recorded: the Great Hornbill, Oriental Pied Hornbill, Rufous-necked Hornbill and Wreathed Hornbill, known locally by different Liangmei and Rongmei names.
Pamphlets describing the different hornbill species found in Tamenglong district were distributed to participants to promote awareness and conservation of the birds, which are listed under Schedule I of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.
