DIMAPUR — The Zeliangrong Youth Front (Assam, Manipur & Nagaland) has written to the Chief Justice of the Manipur High Court seeking intervention into the irregular functioning of the district court at Tamenglong, stating that hearings are frequently not held due to the absence of the judge without prior information to litigants.
In a representation submitted through the Registrar General of the High Court of Manipur, the organisation said there are verbal complaints from the general public regarding the court’s functioning.
It stated that on several occasions, litigants who travelled from different parts of the district and the state to attend court returned home without hearing, trial or proceedings of their cases because of the judge’s absence without prior notice.
The organisation said prior information regarding inability of the judge to attend court should be made known to litigants, noting that they attend court bearing their own expenditure “out of hard earned money with the hope and confidence of getting justice of their grievances.”
The Zeliangrong Youth Front urged the Chief Justice to issue appropriate instructions or necessary directions, or to depute or replace the judge so that hearings, trials and proceedings are conducted regularly at the Tamenglong District Court for the ends of justice.
