DIMAPUR — An awareness programme on the theme "Choose health, not drugs – nasha mukt Bharat is our duty" was organised on Saturday at Y Anner village in Shamator with the initiative of Kudazo Swuro, EAC Shamator, in collaboration with the village council, church, youth, and students' community.
As part of the programme, a volleyball competition and a rally race were conducted to encourage sportsmanship and promote a healthy lifestyle as an alternative to drug abuse, stated a press release.
Sanitary pads were also distributed to promote menstrual hygiene among women and adolescent girls.

Addressing the gathering, Swuro highlighted the importance of education and skill development in ensuring that the youth remain engaged in constructive activities and are safeguarded from the menace of drugs.
He also called upon the village council chairman and members to remain well informed about women-centric welfare schemes such as the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY), which promotes institutional delivery and extends support to pregnant women.
During his visit, the EAC also inspected the implementation of various government programmes in the village, particularly the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) and Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), and expressed satisfaction over their successful execution.
He further exhorted the village council to remain vigilant and ensure that all developmental works in the village are implemented in a transparent and effective manner.
In the sporting events, the church team secured the first position in the volleyball competition, while the youth team won the rally race.
