DIMAPUR — St. Edmund Higher Secondary School, Dimapur, in partnership with Can Youth, organised a one-day awareness programme on June 27 at the school campus, addressing tobacco use prevention, menstrual hygiene, anti-bullying, and mental health.
According to an update, the awareness programme featured three sessions.
Dr. N Moa Jamir, District Nodal Officer, Dimapur, and Imkumla Aier, psychologist, NTCP Dimapur, shed light on the detrimental effects of tobacco and the crucial importance of early prevention.
Jenpu Rhakho Rongmei, founder and chief functionary of Can Youth, facilitated a discussion on combating bullying and prioritising mental well-being. He stressed that "Silence kills a person’s growth," encouraging students to voice their thoughts and feelings freely.
He also proposed the establishment of a "Helping Buddy Box" and "Young Support Group" within the school, offering a secure space for students to share concerns and suggestions.

Nuyielu Nyekha, programme manager at Can Youth, emphasised the significance of menstrual hygiene. She also recommended that the school provide sanitary pads to ensure students' health and comfort, as well as awareness posters in classrooms.
The programme concluded with activities and two pledges led by the school captains. Students committed to abstaining from tobacco and living a tobacco-free life, as well as standing united against bullying, treating everyone with kindness and respect, and actively being the positive change they wish to see.
