- DIMAPUR — The
Shamator District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) conducted an awareness programme
on prevention of child marriage at Government Higher Secondary School,
Shamator, on May 12 with the EAC of
Shamator, Mekato J Aye, as the special guest.
- Speaking at the awareness programme, Aye encouraged the
students to pursue their dreams and serve as ambassador in the fight against
child marriage by actively raising awareness about its harmful impact and
advocating its prevention in the future.
- A DIPR report stated that legal-cum-probation officer of
DCPU, Cherry Ovung, spoke on the 'Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006' by
making the students aware of the legal age for marriage for both male and
female. She also cautioned the students on the consequences of child marriage
and the punishment for such a crime.

- The counselor at Child Help Line, Sothrunkiu Kips, spoke on
Child Helpline 1098, highlighting that the child helpline is the first
responder for any child related cases and encouraged the students to call 1098
in case of abuse, bullying, abandonment or any child related case.
- The programme was chaired by protection office (NIC) of
DCPU, Mongshai, and concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by case worker of
Child Helpline, Neotola S.
