The inaugural Atuo Mezhür Sekhose Super League will kick off in Kohima on August 12 with five participating teams

KOHIMA — The inaugural edition of the Atuo Mezhür Sekhose Super League, themed 'Honouring a Legacy', will be held from August 12 to 29 at the Indira Gandhi Stadium, Kohima.
The official launch and slot allotment ceremony was held at 2K Hotel, Kohima, on Friday in the presence of family members of late Atuo Mezhür Sekhose.
Neidilhou Keditsu, Director of Economics and Statistics, officially launched the league and presented slot allotment certificates to the five teams that have registered for the inaugural tournament.
Addressing the gathering, Keditsu expressed hope that the new league would contribute to the growth of football in Nagaland by nurturing talented players.

He said he hoped the competition would produce future football stars and looked forward to seeing the "Messi, Ronaldo and Bhaichung Bhutia of Nagaland."
Wishing the organisers, players and the family of late Atuo Mezhür Sekhose success, he said the league should serve as a platform for players from Kohima to represent the state and the country.
Although eight teams were invited to participate in the league earlier this month, only five completed their registration. The organisers expressed hope that more teams would join future editions.
The participating teams are Mez & Co, Sechü Zubza FC, Tsütuonuomia Youth Organisation, Nurturing Youngsters FC, and Vanguard Academy Tseminyu.
The league is being organised by the Kohima District Football Association (KDFA) under the aegis of Nagaland Football Association (NFA) in collaboration with the Department of Youth Resources and Sports.
Earlier this month, the KDFA and the family of late Atuo Mezhür Sekhose signed a Memorandum of Understanding to institute the league in honour of Sekhose, a sports administrator regarded as one of the pioneers of football development in Nagaland.
