Atoki Zhimo wins Men Open title at 5th Armwrestling Championship in Kohima

KOHIMA — Atoki Zhimo won the 65+ kg Men Open (Right Arm) title after defeating Dhruv in the final of the fifth edition of the Armwrestling Championship on Saturday.

Organised by Naga Armbenders, the competition was held at the Kohima Peace Memorial Park, drawing more than 130 participants across various categories.

Speaking with Eastern Mirror, Atoki Zhimo, Head Referee and Event Manager of the Naga Armbenders, and Vikehienuo Zumvü, an executive member, stated that the participants included 10 women players.

They stated that the prize pool was INR 45,000, along with certificates and medals. The winners of the tournament will also receive an opportunity to participate in the upcoming national championships.

The organisers shared that while they initially faced low turnout when they started the event, participation has steadily increased as the sport gains popularity in the community. They expressed gratitude for the positive response and support from the community.

They also updated that one of their members, Vethozo Lohe, will participate in the upcoming World Nomad Games in Kyrgyzstan.
