  • DIMAPUR — The Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA), Medziphema Block, conducted various activities in four villages, including Kukidolong, Socunoma, Pherima A and Medziphema, on May 27 and 28.

  • A farm school on cultivation of oyster mushroom was inaugurated at Kukidolong village by Dr. Bendangla Imsong, CTO, KVK, Jarnapani, under ATMA, Medziphema block on May 27, an update stated.

  • The farm school was inaugurated with the aim to mobilise, encourage and uplift the farmers on income generation and sustainable livelihood.

  • The inaugural event was followed by a demonstration on post-harvest technology of oyster mushroom where farmers were taught on the various preservation methods of oyster mushroom and step-by-step method on preparation of pickled, dried and powdered mushroom, which was taken by Masatula Pongener, ATM.

  • Later, hands-on-demo on preparation of powder detergent was led by Nengkhonem Hangsing, ATM. The trainees were taught on to prepare powder detergent, packaging methods and marketing strategies.

  • A capacity building training on package of practices of ericulture, demonstration on control of Uzi fly at Eri silkworm rearing house using yellow sticky trap and demonstration on disinfection of Eri rearing house appliances was conducted at Socunoma village on May 27.

  • A capacity-building training was held at Socunoma village on May 27, covering ericulture best practices, Uzi fly control using yellow sticky traps, and disinfecting eri-rearing house appliances, with Chubatsur, BTM, as the resource person.

  • The farmers were taught on the procedures and techniques of eri rearing, quality control of the cocoon, various approaches on how the control different pests of eri silkworm and the importance and methods for disinfection of eri silkworm appliances.

  • Yellow sticky traps and knap sack sprayers were distributed to the participants.

  • Bikram Ghimere, project assistant at STINER-TFC, NU, SAS, led a practical vermicomposting demo, empowering farmers to convert agricultural waste into valuable resources. Participants received vermicomposting bags with earthworms (Eisenia foetida spp.).

  • In continuation, Masatula Pongener, ATM, conducted a hands-on demo on maize and French bean intercropping at Pherima A village on May 28. The session included inspecting for Fall Armyworm (FAW) incidence and demonstrating mitigation strategies.

  • Additionally, a capacity-building training on empowering rural women through entrepreneurship was held at Medziphema town, led by Bikram Ghimere. He inspired participants with success stories of Naga women entrepreneurs, highlighting benefits, key sectors, and strategies, as well as Government of India policies and schemes supporting rural women entrepreneurship.

  • Further, a demo on oyster mushroom cultivation was conducted by Chubatsur, BTM, teaching participants the techniques and best practices. To support their endeavours, participants received mushroom spawns, polybags, ropes, and sprayers."

  • Another capacity building training on preparation of king chilli pickle was conducted by Nengkhonem Hnagsing, ATM, where the farmers were taught on the step-by-step preparation of pickled king chilli, ways to extend its shelf life and packaging practices.
