
ATMA functionaries and farmers during the capacity-building
programme on cultivation technology for oyster mushrooms held at Yimchalu
village.
- DIMAPUR — The Agricultural Technology
Management Agency (ATMA), Kobulong block, Mokokchung, conducted a demonstration
programme on the topic "Organic production of ginger (nadia)" at
Yimchalu village on Monday, with Temjeninla, Assistant Technology Manager
(ATM), as the resource person.
- According to an update on the occasion, the resource person
first gave an introduction to the varieties of ginger and stated that ginger is
one of the oldest spices, with a distinct flavour and pungency.
- Highlighting the high-yielding varieties of ginger, such as
nadia, which is best suited to the northeastern states, she emphasised the
selection of healthy, disease-free rhizomes and the cutting of ginger rhizomes
into reasonably smaller sizes, taking care of the nodes.
- She demonstrated and explained in detail the field
preparation with minimum tillage and bed preparation with proper spacing.
Furthermore, the use of organic fertilisers, such as well-rotted manure or
compost; employing natural pest control methods like companion planting or
using botanical extracts; and rotating ginger with other crops to prevent soil
exhaustion were discussed.
- A total of 12 farmers, along with ATMA staff, attended the
demonstration programme.
