The Angami Students' Union conducted an awareness drive in Kohima, urging proper use of government vehicles and compliance with tobacco-free zone laws around schools.
DIMAPUR — The Angami Students' Union (ASU) on Monday conducted a public awareness drive across Kohima, covering areas around Mezhür Higher Secondary School, Little Flower Higher Secondary School, G Rio Higher Secondary School, Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, and Minister's Hill Baptist Higher Secondary School.
According to a press release issued by the union, the campaign targeted parents, government vehicle drivers and local business owners to promote civic responsibility and create a disciplined environment for students.
During the drive, ASU volunteers distributed informational pamphlets highlighting Rule 22.5 of the Nagaland Transport Department guidelines, which states that government-allotted vehicles are to be used strictly for official purposes.
The union also reminded shopkeepers and commercial establishments located near educational institutions that the sale of tobacco or other intoxicating products within a 100-yard radius of schools is prohibited under Section 6 of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA), 2003, and Section 77 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015.
The ASU stated that values such as honesty, discipline and ethical conduct are shaped by the everyday actions of adults.

It said that ensuring the proper use of public resources and maintaining lawful commercial practices around educational institutions are essential for fostering a safe and responsible environment for students.
The union further informed that it would continue to monitor compliance with the relevant laws and carry out periodic awareness and inspection drives. It urged public servants and business owners to remain mindful of their civic responsibilities and adhere to the applicable legal provisions.
The ASU also expressed gratitude to parents, residents and community members for their cooperation and support in promoting a healthy, safe and value-based environment for students.
