DIMAPUR — In commemoration of the 5th anniversary of the National Education Policy (NEP 2020), mega identification & assessment camps for children with special needs (CwSN) were held in Wokha, Longleng and Tuensang districts.
Wokha: The Education Mission Society (Samagra Shiksha) organised a Mega Identification & Assessment Camp for Children with Special Needs (CwSN) at Dr. Motsuo Memorial District Hospital, Wokha, on Tuesday.
Over a hundred children—comprising government school students and those receiving home-based education—participated in the camp, where they received free medical check-ups, services, and incentives.
T. Ezantthung Lotha, District Inclusive Education (IE) Coordinator, Wokha, informed that the children were thoroughly examined and assessed by government doctors, who determined the percentage of disability for each child. Based on the evaluations, disability certificates were issued accordingly.
Lotha added that the certified students will be eligible to access various government services, including travel concessions and other benefits.

The medical camp was led by Dr. N Mhonchan Kithan, Medical Superintendent of Dr. Motsuo Memorial District Hospital, Wokha, along with seven other medical officers from various departments.

Longleng: The District Health Society Longleng, in collaboration with the Nagaland Education Mission Society (Samagra Shiksha), conducted a Mega Identification & Assessment Camp for children with Special Needs (CWSN) at District Hospital Longleng, on Tuesday.
The initiative aims to ensure early identification, proper assessment, and timely support for children with special needs, thereby strengthening inclusive education in the district, an update from CMO Longleng stated.
The team of specialist doctors and medical professionals who carried out the assessments, included Dr. Thejavitu Kire (Eye Specialist), Dr. Martsuden (Orthopaedic Surgeon, IMDH Mokokchung), Dr. Zuchobeni (ENT Specialist, IMDH Mokokchung), Dr. Joshua (Medicine Specialist), and an audiologist from IMDH Mokokchung.
During the programme, Dr. Tiasunep, CMO Longleng, in his welcome address, highlighted the importance of early identification and intervention in enhancing educational outcomes for CwSN.

Tinumayang, DEO Longleng, stated that, “This camp is an important step towards inclusive healthcare and education. By identifying and assessing children with special needs at an early stage, we can provide timely interventions and support, ensuring that no child is left behind in the pursuit of education and development.”
The program is expected to benefit children across Longleng district and surrounding areas. Parents, guardians, and stakeholders have been encouraged to bring their children for assessment and avail the specialised services being provided.
Tuensang: The event was organised by the Department of School Education in convergence with RBSK team Tuensang at District Hospital Tuensang on Tuesday.
Altogether 25 children with disabilities, including cleft lip and palate (five), otitis media (three), club foot (one), vision impairment (one) and hearing impairment One) were registered for the camp.
The medical team for the camp were doctors and nurses from the District Hospital, medical officer (RBSK) and two ANMs from UPHC Tuensang.
