DIMAPUR — The Assam Rifles conducted health screening camps and a youth wellness programme in Kohima and Tuensang on Wednesday.
In support of the Government of India's TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan and the ongoing 100-day intensive campaign launched to accelerate progress towards a TB-free India, the Assam Rifles conducted an Ayushman Arogya Shivir (Health Screening Camp) for troops and family members at Unit Hospital, Kohima Garrison.
According to an update, the screening camp was organised in coordination with the Office of the Chief Medical Officer, Kohima, with the aim of promoting preventive healthcare, early disease detection, and public health awareness among military personnel and their dependents.
A range of medical screening services was provided during the camp, including Chest X-Ray, HIV screening, hepatitis testing, blood pressure check-up, and blood sugar testing. Medical teams also interacted with the participants and highlighted the importance of timely health screening, early diagnosis, and adherence to healthy lifestyle practices.
In another initiative, the Assam Rifles, in collaboration with the Rajyoga Education and Research Foundation under Brahma Kumaris, Kohima, organised a “Youth Wellness & Awareness Programme” at Kohima Garrison on the theme “Unmasking the appeal”.

The initiative aimed at sensitising local youth about the harmful effects of tobacco and nicotine while promoting healthy and positive lifestyles. The event witnessed participation from approximately 250 students and local youth representing various schools, colleges, and institutions across Kohima.
Deputy IGAR (North) attended the occasion as the chief guest. The programme was also attended by DC Kohima B Henok Buchem; Joint Director of the Youth Resources and Sports Department Nizeheto Awomi; NTCP nodal officer; and other dignitaries.
Dr. Swapan Gupta delivered a keynote address on tobacco and nicotine awareness, highlighting the importance of informed choices and preventive action among young people.
During the event, the anti-tobacco awareness campaign was officially launched, reinforcing collective efforts towards a tobacco-free society.
Addressing the gathering, the dignitaries focused on the importance of youth participation in promoting healthy lifestyles and building a drug- and tobacco-free future.
In his special address, the chief guest encouraged the youth to become ambassadors of positive change within their communities.
The programme concluded with the flagging off of an awareness rally. The rally passed through prominent locations across Kohima town, spreading messages on tobacco cessation and healthy living.
In Tuensang, the Assam Rifles conducted a Dental Health Camp at the Assam Rifles High School as part of its ongoing efforts to promote health awareness and preventive healthcare among students.
The camp aimed at creating awareness regarding oral hygiene and the importance of preventive dental care. During the programme, students underwent dental check-ups and were educated on maintaining healthy oral habits, proper brushing techniques, and overall dental hygiene practices.
Medical personnel also interacted with the students and highlighted the significance of regular dental care in ensuring long-term health and well-being.
