Assam Rifles conducts Republic Day events in Nagaland and reviews security at Pangsau Pass with Lieutenant General Vikas Lakhera.

DIMAPUR — The Assam Rifles organised various events ranging from Republic Day celebrations in Nagaland to security reviews along the Indo-Myanmar border recently.
As part of the Republic Day 2026 Commemoration Phase II, the Assam Rifles organised a mass singing of the national song “Vande Matram” in Mokokchung district and at Phelungre, Kiphire district.
According to a press release, the event was conducted with the objective of fostering patriotism, national integration and awareness about India’s cultural and historical heritage. The programme witnessed the participation of school students, NCC cadets of Mokokchung, primary school students of Phelungre and local civilians.
Following the mass singing, a lecture on the significance and history of the national song was delivered. The event also featured a band performance by the Assam Rifles.

In a separate event on January 23, the Assam Rifles organised a ‘Run for Unity’ and national flag march involving children at Hakkomute village, Kiphire district, under its civic action programme.
The programme commenced with an address by the company commander, who highlighted the importance of unity, integrity and respect for national values. Children from Hakkomute and adjoining villages participated in the run. Subsequently, a national flag march was conducted within the village.
Meanwhile, the director general of Assam Rifles visited the Pangsau Pass on January 22 to review the prevailing security situation along the Indo–Myanmar border and to conduct an on-ground review of a pilot project.
During the visit, the director general carried out an assessment of the surveillance infrastructure and interacted with stakeholders. He emphasised the role of technology-enabled border management in enhancing situational awareness, deterrence and overall security of the frontier.
He underscored the importance of timely completion, robust maintenance and seamless integration of the surveillance system with existing operational mechanisms. He was also briefed on the local security dynamics and ongoing operational measures.
