DIMAPUR — Alleging that cadres of NSCN-K (Niki) were involved in extortion targeting commercial vehicles in Longkhim-Chare area and accusing the group’s leadership of failing to cooperate in identifying the culprits, the United Sangtam Likhum Pümji (USLP) has declared “non-cooperation” with the organisation across Sangtam jurisdiction.
The resolution was adopted during a joint meeting of the USLP, the Longkhim-Chare Area GBs Union and village head GBs of the Longkhim-Chare area held at Longkhim Town on May 21.
According to a declaration issued after the meeting, the alleged extortion involving cash, groceries and other items took place between Kiding village and Chare town on November 30, December 2 and December 3, 2025, by an unidentified group.

The USLP stated that after learning about the incidents, it had directed the Chare Area GBs Union (CAGU) to conduct an inquiry as the matter fell within its jurisdiction.
Following what it described as a thorough investigation, the organisation alleged that the individuals involved belonged to the NSCN-K (Niki) group.
The declaration stated that a meeting was convened on December 15, 2025, between the CAGU and representatives of NSCN-K (Niki), led by the chairman of the group’s Sangtam region.
During the meeting, the regional chairman allegedly admitted that cadres of the group were involved in the extortion activities and agreed to identify and produce the accused before the CAGU court on or before December 30, 2025.
The USLP further claimed that an agreement was signed stating that if any untoward incident happened to CAGU leaders or members, the NSCN-K (Niki) would be held solely responsible.
However, the organisation alleged that despite subsequent meetings and assurances, the accused individuals were neither identified nor produced before the council.
It stated that another agreement was later signed imposing non-cooperation with the group until the matter was resolved, suspending cadres from the Chare area from community accountability and deciding to publicise the matter through the media.
The USLP alleged that even higher authorities of the group had “deliberately failed to cooperate” and instead sheltered the accused individuals.
Calling such actions harmful to cordial relations within society, the organisation announced that it had unanimously resolved to enforce non-cooperation with NSCN-K (Niki) group across the entire Sangtam jurisdiction, including five Sangtam villages under Dimapur district, until the accused were brought before the USLP office and the matter settled.
