  • MOKOKCHUNG — The Ao Students’ Conference (AKM) has expressed profound anguish and condemned the ‘appalling and inhuman’ act of physical abuse to a minor allegedly committed by Wapang L Imsong.

  • The alleged abuser is an LDA-cum-computer operator under 10 IR Battalion, Zadima, and attached to the Police Engineering Project (PEP), PHQ.

  • Imsong was accused of brutally abusing a 9-year-old minor male child from the Konyak community, sparking outrage across Mokokchung.

  • In a statement released on May 16, AKM labeled the act as a gross violation of child rights and human dignity, contravening the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015, and the fundamental Right to Life under Article 21 of the Indian Constitution.

  • AKM demanded immediate prosecution of Imsong under Section 75 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), asserting that such heinous crimes warrant swift and unbiased legal action.

  • “The sheer brutality inflicted on a child, who deserves care, compassion and a safe environment for growth, is horrifying and unacceptable,” the AKM stated and expressed shock that a government employee entrusted with discipline could commit such a ‘barbaric’ act.

  • AKM stressed that such behavior has no place in a civilised society and called for the authorities to ensure transparent justice.

  • The AKM further extended solidarity to the Konyak community and the victim’s family, while it also urged the conscientious citizens and civil society organisations to unite against such atrocities.

  • “We must work together to create a safer, just and humane society for all children,” the statement read, emphasising the need for collective action to protect vulnerable minors.

  • The incident has ignited widespread concern, with the AKM’s call for accountability resonating as a clarion call to safeguard child rights and uphold justice in Nagaland.

  • Meanwhile, AKM office informed that the 10th AKM executive meeting is scheduled on May 24 from 11 am onwards, followed by another meeting with the 70th AKM planning committee (Chungtia) from 2 pm at AKM conference hall. AKM office has requested all concerned members to attend the crucial meeting without fail.
